MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - No. 17 Wisconsin men’s basketball fell by eight points at Maryland on Wednesday night.

The Badgers trailed by one point at the half, then the Terps went on a 14-2 run to take the lead for the rest of the night.

This was the Badgers’ second loss over two games, but just their second loss since December 10.

Excluding the 2021-2022 season that ended with a 25-8 record, the second half tends to be rougher for Greg Gard’s team. Starting consistently in January, usually towards the end of the month, the losses start to pile up. Sometimes the losses snowball, like last season. Other years, it is just a few game stretch.

As for mitigating the chances of snowballing, Gard has a concise view on the future.

“Play the next game,” Gard said postgame Wednesday. “I don’t worry about other years. Onto the next game, we’ve gotta get ready for Northwestern and they’re going to be a handful, so making sure we keep getting better.”

The no. 17 Badgers are onto Northwestern. Tipoff with the wildcats is at 1:00 on Saturday.
